ILLEGALLY SOLD DRONE TECH TO RUSSIA

FACES UP TO FIVE YEARS IN PRISON

On April 30, 2024, NG (36) of Brooklyn, New York, pleaded guilty to a conspiracy “to defraud the United States,” for illegally exporting electronic drone components to companies associated with the Russian military.

Between October 22, 2021, and February 22, 2022, he is said to have received over $272,000 which he used to purchase the electronic components. And after a search warrant of his residence was executed, some 11,500 items (awaiting export to Russia) were found and seized.

While his sentencing date has not been released, NG faces up to 5 years in a federal prison.

In a written statement, Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco noted that “In pleading guilty today, the defendant admitted he conspired to smuggle over $250,000 worth of sensitive American drone technology to Russian companies fueling Putin’s unlawful war against Ukraine …. Swift action by agents and prosecutors unraveled a web of fake orders and wire transfers to prevent over 11,500 electronic components from making their way to the Russian war machine. The Justice Department will continue to hold accountable those who defy our sanctions and export controls to support Russia’s unprovoked and unjustified aggression in Ukraine – whether they’re based in New York City or overseas.”

We won’t drone on.
