ISSUED BASELESS PRESCRIPTIONS FOR THOUSANDS OF ORTHOTIC BRACES
In mid-May, ST (55), a Michigan doctor, was convicted by a federal jury of “one count of health care fraud and five counts of false statements relating to health care matters,” all arising from the issuance of thousands of prescriptions for orthotic braces which weren’t “medically necessary.”
These prescriptions were then used by brace supply companies to bilk millions out of Medicare; reportedly some $6.3 million (while the doctor netted some $120,000).
Scheduled to be sentenced on August 15, 2024, Dr. ST faces up to a decade in prison for health care fraud, and five years on each of the “false statement” counts.
Think the doctor is bracing for that?
