THINGS GOT CRITICAL AT JACOBSON MEMORIAL HOSPITAL CARE CENTER

AFRICAN AMERICAN EMPLOYEE WAS DISCHARGED AFTER EXPOSING RACIAL HARASSMENT

According to a press release issued by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), an African American nursing aide at Jacobson Memorial Hospital Care Center -- a critical access hospital located in Elgin North Dakota -- was discharged back in May of 2019 after reporting a co-worker’s use of the word “n-word.”

Since such conduct allegedly violates Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the EEOC filed suit in the U.S. District Court of North Dakota, Western Division, Civil Action No. 1:23-CV-00192, seeking monetary damages and injunctive relief.

In a written statement, Greg Gochanour, regional attorney for the EEOC’s Chicago District Office, noted that “Title VII makes it clear that employers must not punish employees filing harassment complaints …. Employees should not have to tolerate racially hostile name-calling in the workplace, nor should employers punish employees who speak up about such conduct.”

What names do you think they called that?
