FACES UP TO 40 YEARS IN PRISON FOR HOLDING SEXUALLY EXPLICIT IMAGES
According to a press release issued by the United States Department of Justice, a former ABC News journalist from Arlington, Virginia, (53), pleaded guilty, on July 21, 2023, to “transportation and possession of child sexual abuse material.”
Apparently, the man was found to have videos on his iPhone which depicted images of minors engaged in “sexually explicit conduct,” including those of an infant being “raped.”
With sentencing scheduled for September 29, the former reporter faces a minimum of five years to a maximum of forty years in prison.
The press release notes, “This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. Led by U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
