Plans to Build New Water Tower for Corning Guthrie Hospital Were At Risk of Delay Without Key FAA Permit for Plans, Due to Proximity to Elmira-Corning Airport
Schumer Recently Pushed FAA To Expedite Permit to Allow Construction To Move Forward & Stay on Schedule – Significant Delays Could Have Cost Corning Time and Money by Missing End of Construction Season
Schumer: FAA Did the Right Thing By Clearing Water Tower Project For Take- Off
Last week, U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer announced that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued a key permit that allows Corning Guthrie Hospital to continue with its plan to build a water tower to serve the needs of a new hospital facility – allowing construction of that new facility to begin. The start of construction of the project was under threat of delay if the FAA did not issue such a permit, because the water tower project must be cited as a potential obstruction for Elmira-Corning Regional Airport. Schumer pushed behind the scenes to expedite the approval of the permit so that the Corning Guthrie water tower could be built on schedule. Schumer explained that keeping the construction project on its initial timeline was particularly important considering the shortened construction seasons in the Northeast. Now, with the permit on hand, Schumer said that Corning Guthrie could move forward with its new water tower assured of all necessary approvals.
“Corning Guthrie could not afford to have this critical water tower project put in a holding pattern by a permitting issue, so I am pleased to announce today that the FAA has issued this key permit and construction can continue on schedule,” said Schumer. “I commend the FAA for heeding my call to expedite this permit, which will allow Corning Guthrie to continue delivering the top-notch health care for which its known.”
Corning Guthrie Hospital is a premier healthcare facility in the region, and a major employer. The construction of a new facility ensures it will continue to offer top-notch lifesaving care to those who call the Southern Tier home, support existing jobs, create new employment opportunities and contribute to the region’s economy.
