Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz and City Councilwoman Letitia James will join other elected officials, health advocates and community leaders in Borough Hall on Friday, March 26, at 12 noon to launch the Brooklyn Smoke-Free Partnership, a new group that aims to build upon New York City's success at reducing tobacco's toll of death and disease by focusing on local, community-level actions in Brooklyn neighborhoods. The Partnership brings together health advocates with community partners in a coordinated grass roots campaign to protect Brooklyn residents from second hand smoke, defend children against tobacco addiction and help smokers find the resources to quit. The partnership will target neighborhood stores and supermarkets, and seek to connect smokers with neighborhood-based cessation programs.

The officials will also discuss proposed legislation to regulate smoking in enclosed vehicles when children are present.
