Dear Ansonia Democratic Club Member,
Dear Ansonia Democratic Club Member,
I am writing today to tell you about my campaign to be New York City's next Public Advocate, and to ask for your support.
I am running for Public Advocate because I feel we need a strong, independent leader in City government who will fight for our neighborhoods and our families. In my present role as City Councilmember and Chair of the Council's General Welfare Committee, and through my previous work as a District 15 School Board Member, the Regional Director for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and a top aide in the Dinkins Administration, I have dedicated my career to standing up for New Yorkers and delivering results for our city.
The role I played during the term limits fight is the role I want to play as Public Advocate - organizing communities around the issues that are important to us. Particularly during this difficult economic time, we must protect our values and our neighborhoods. Whether reforming government by keeping it open and accountable, ensuring the continued provision of core services such as housing, childcare, and quality public education, or protecting the character and diversity of New York City's neighborhoods, I will be an independent leader who makes sure the voices of families and neighborhoods across New York City are heard in City Hall.
Our campaign has been gaining significant momentum in recent weeks. We have assembled the largest and broadest coalition of key elected officials, community groups and labor unions in the Public Advocate race. This enthusiastic support for our vision and our campaign will only grow as we continue to build our movement across the City.
Our Public Advocate campaign has received the support of numerous elected officials and political leaders from all levels of government, including:
-Congress Members Charlie Rangel, Jerrold Nadler, Edolphus Towns and Yvette Clarke;
-Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer;
-State Senators Liz Krueger, Eric Schneiderman and Tom Duane;
-Assembly Members Jonathan Bing, Brian Kavanagh, Micah Kellner, and Linda Rosenthal;
-Council Members Jessica Lappin and Daniel Garodnick;
-District Leaders Leader Tom Schuler, Marc Landis and LeAnn Leutner;
-Democratic National Committee Member Emily Giske;
-State Committeeman Larry Hirsch.
We have also won the support of many community organizations and unions including:
-SEIU 32BJ;
-Hotel and Motel Trades Council;
-UNITE HERE New York State Council;
-Working Families Party;
-ACORN Political Action Committee;
-Communication Workers of America, District 1 AFL-CIO.
Over its history, Ansonia Democratic Club has done remarkable work on key progressive issues in New York City. I look forward to getting to know the Ansonia Democratic Club and working with you.
