Makita U.S.A., Inc. has announced a recall of certain models of its Professional Cordless Grease Guns and Grease Gun Hoses due to a potential laceration hazard. The flexible hose component of these products may develop a hole during use, causing grease to be ejected and posing a risk of injury. Approximately 62,927 units are affected by this recall.
The products involved include Makita Cordless Grease Guns with model numbers XPG01S1, XPG01SR1, and XPG01Z, as well as Makita Grease Gun Hoses with model numbers 191A79-9, 191A80-4, 191W58-9, and 191W59-7. All recalled hoses feature spring ends. The model number can be found on the manufacturer label located on the right side of the grease guns, and serial numbers are printed on the battery mounting port. A full list of affected serial number ranges is available on Makita’s website.
Makita has received five reports of hose failures resulting in laceration injuries, all of which occurred outside the United States. Consumers are urged to stop using the recalled products immediately and contact Makita for a free replacement hose. The replacement model is 1916V6-0.
These products were sold at hardware and home improvement stores nationwide and through various online retailers between June 2020 and January 2025, with prices ranging from $60 to $390. The items were manufactured in China and imported by Makita U.S.A., Inc., based in La Mirada, California.
