Anker Innovations has issued a recall for approximately 481,000 portable power banks due to the risk of fire and burn hazards stemming from overheating lithium-ion batteries. The affected models include A1647, A1652, A1257, A1681, A1689, and A1263. These devices were sold between June 2016 and June 2025 through major retailers such as Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, and Target, as well as Anker’s own website.
Consumers are urged to stop using the recalled power banks immediately. The serial number, located next to the “SN Code” on the back or side of the device, is essential for verifying whether a unit is part of the recall. Anker requires users to submit a photo of the power bank showing the model number, serial number, the owner’s name, the date of the photograph, and the word “recalled” written clearly in permanent marker. This documentation is necessary to receive either a full refund or an Anker gift card.
While Anker has not publicly released a full list of serial numbers, consumers can confirm whether their device is affected by visiting Anker’s official recall page. There, users can enter their serial number to determine eligibility and begin the refund process. Proper disposal of the recalled units is critical; they must not be placed in household trash or standard recycling bins due to the fire risk. Instead, consumers should contact their local household hazardous waste collection center for guidance.
This recall follows 33 reported incidents of fire and explosion, including four minor burn injuries and one case of significant property damage. Anker has emphasized that the recall is a precautionary measure to ensure customer safety.
Best to avoid getting Ankered down by flames!
