A Tragicomedy by Hugo André to Screen at the 2025 Naples International Film Festival
Artis—Naples recently announced that Happy as Larry, the latest feature from award-winning British filmmaker Hugo André, is an official selection of the 17th annual Naples International Film Festival (NIFF). The film will screen at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Naples, Florida, on the following dates:
- Thursday, October 24 at 7:00 PM
- Friday, October 25 at 4:55 PM
- Saturday, October 26 at 2:00 PM
Writer-director Hugo André will be in attendance for post-screening discussions.
About the Film
Happy as Larry is a darkly comic meditation on mortality, loneliness, and the unexpected grace of human connection. Set against the haunting beauty of Scotland’s Isle of Skye, the film follows Larry, a disillusioned novelist whose literary success stands in stark contrast to his bleak personal life. Planning one final solitary journey before ending it all, Larry’s retreat is disrupted by Dale, a relentlessly cheerful stranger whose presence forces him to confront his despair. What begins as an awkward encounter evolves into a poignant exploration of friendship and redemption.
Shot entirely on location using natural light, the film’s visual intimacy and tonal precision have earned it accolades on the international circuit, including the Audience Award for Best International Feature at the Dallas International Film Festival.
About the Filmmaker
Hugo André is an award-winning director, writer, and producer based in London. He left college at a young age to pursue his passion for film and photography, launching a production career by the age of 16. His debut short, Soul Forest, garnered over 20 awards and nominations, establishing him as a rising voice in independent cinema. His first feature, Makeup, was released internationally in 2023. Known for his lyrical storytelling and visual restraint, André now runs his own production company and continues to develop projects that blend emotional depth with stylistic clarity.

Now in its 17th year, the Naples International Film Festival (NIFF) is a program of Artis—Naples and one of the most respected regional festivals in the United States. Running from October 23–26, 2025, NIFF showcases 60 films from 17 countries, including 47 premieres across narrative, documentary, and short formats.
