Mom Genius Retractable Gates Recalled for Entrapment Hazard
Mom Genius has announced a recall of approximately 920 retractable safety gates due to a serious risk of injury or death. While the name may suggest brilliance, this product’s design flaw is anything but genius. The gates fail to meet the mandatory federal safety standard for expansion gates and enclosures, allowing a child’s torso to pass through the gap between the gate and the floor—posing a dangerous entrapment hazard.
The recalled gates were sold in black and gray and feature a retractable mesh screen between metal frames. Measuring approximately 33 inches high and extending up to 118 inches wide, each gate is labeled “Retractable Safety Gate” with model number SH.20.006B02 printed on the side.
Consumers are urged to stop using the gates immediately. To receive a full refund, they must cut through the mesh, take a photo of the destroyed gate, and submit it to Mom Genius via email at product-recall@momgenius.com or through the Mom Genius recall page.
