Hot Off the Press—Literally: 3M Recalls Scotch™ TL909-50 Laminators Over Overheating Risk
If your laminator’s been running a little too hot lately, it ain't just your imagination—or your spreadsheet’s spicy content. 3M Company has issued a voluntary recall of approximately 13,440 units of its Scotch™ brand TL909-50 thermal laminator due to a potential overheating issue that could pose a burn hazard.
The affected machines, sold between August 2024 and September 2025 at retailers including Office Depot, Office Smart, and School Specialty, Inc., may be getting a bit too enthusiastic about their job. While no injuries have been reported, 3M isn’t taking any chances. After all, laminating should preserve your documents—not roast your fingertips.
What to look for:
The recalled laminators are light gray/white with gray accents and feature the word “Scotch” on the front. If your unit’s serial number falls between 2406000001 and 2501001920, it’s time to unplug and take action.
What to do:
Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the laminator, unplug it, and contact 3M for a full refund. Yes, there’s a form involved—and yes, you’ll need to snip the power cord (don’t worry, it’s not a breakup, just a safety precaution). Once confirmed, 3M will mail you a refund check. No laminator, no problem.

Because when it comes to office supplies, “hot” should describe your coffee—not your laminator ....
