Christina Cates is a seasoned hospitality professional with over 20 years of experience managing some of New York City’s most iconic restaurants, including Tavern on the Green, The Palm, and Almond Tribeca. A graduate of The Art Institute of NYC with a degree in Restaurant Management, Christina brings a sharp eye and deep empathy to conversations that explore the human side of hospitality.
Joining her is Zamir Gotta, a Russian-born television producer, cultural ambassador, and beloved travel companion of the late Anthony Bourdain. Best known for his appearances on No Reservations and Parts Unknown, Zamir’s on-screen chemistry with Bourdain made him a fan favorite. But his story stretches far beyond the camera. Educated in English at Moscow State Pedagogical University, Zamir began his career as a teacher before transitioning into film production, working on American projects in Russia and later producing episodes for shows like Cities of the Underworld.
Together, Christina and Zamir dive into a rich conversation about the role of food in diplomacy, the lessons learned from sharing meals in unfamiliar places, and the enduring impact of storytelling through cuisine. He also discusses his new memoir, The Fixer and the Chef: My Life With and Without Anthony Bourdain, co-written with Miriam Margala—a deeply personal account of his life, his travels, and the moments that shaped his worldview.
