TESLA’S LATEST FEATURE: SPONTANEOUS BACKYARD BONFIRES

Recall Alert: Your Battery Wants to Be a Campfire.

Tesla has discovered that some Powerwall 2 AC Battery Systems are a little too “powerful.”

Instead of just storing energy, they’ve been auditioning for the role of backyard flamethrower. With 22 reports of overheating, six of smoke, and five of fire, these units are clearly trying to moonlight as barbecue starters.

About 10,500 Powerwall 2 units sold between November 2020 and December 2022 are being recalled. The hazard? Lithium‑ion cells that can overheat, smoke, or flame out—basically turning your clean energy dream into a campfire nightmare.

Remedy? Tesla will replace them, and in the meantime has remotely drained the batteries so they don’t spontaneously decide to roast marshmallows in your garage.

No injuries have been reported, though minor property damage has occurred. So, if your Powerwall has been acting like it wants to join the fire department, check the Tesla app or contact Tesla Support to see if your unit is part of Recall No. 26‑092.

Remember: renewable energy is great, but renewable flames are not.
