A major recall was announced on June 5, 2025, involving approximately 3.8 million BowFlex adjustable dumbbells due to an impact hazard where weight plates can dislodge during use.
Recalled Products
- BowFlex 552 (adjustable from 5 to 52.5 lbs)
- BowFlex 1090 (adjustable from 10 to 90 lbs)
- Sold in black, as singles or pairs, with molded plastic trays
Hazard
- Plates may dislodge from the handle, posing a risk of injury
- 337 incidents reported by BowFlex Inc., including 111 injuries (e.g. concussions, broken toes)
- 12 incidents reported by Johnson Health Tech Trading, with no injuries
Remedy Options
Depending on who sold your dumbbells:

- Full refund voucher or replacement
- BowFlex Inc. (formerly Nautilus Inc.) (2004–April 2024):
- Prorated refund voucher + 1-year JRNY digital fitness membership
What You’ll Need to Do
- Stop using the dumbbells immediately
- Return the handle and base using a prepaid shipping label
- Submit a claim via BowFlex’s recall portal or contact:
