Trane Recalls Nearly 5,000 Gas/Electric Units Over Fire Risk: What Homeowners Need to Know
According to a press release issued by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, Trane Technologies has issued a voluntary recall of approximately 4,790 gas/electric packaged units sold under the Trane and American Standard brands.
The recall, announced on July 3, 2025, stems from a malfunctioning fuel gas valve that can open unexpectedly—posing a serious risk of gas leaks and potential fire hazards.
What’s Being Recalled?
The affected units are two-stage gas/electric packaged systems, commonly used in residential and light commercial settings. These all-in-one systems provide both heating and cooling, making them a popular choice for space-conscious installations. However, five specific models—ranging from 2 to 4 tons—have been identified as vulnerable due to faulty ignition control boards:
| Model Number | Serial Number Range |
|---------------------|-------------------------------|
| 4YCZ5024F1060A | 24061381FA – 24453189FA |
| 4YCZ5036F1070A | 24013024FA – 24482966FA |
| 4YCZ5036F1090A | 24061367FA – 24442702FA |
| 4YCZ5048E1090A | 24061326FA – 24492348FA |
| 4YCZ5048E1115A | 24106164FA – 24415095FA |
These units were sold nationwide through HVAC distributors and dealers between January 2024 and March 2025, with price tags ranging from $8,250 to $12,900.
What’s the Risk?
According to Trane, the gas valve in these units may open without a signal, allowing gas to escape. If ignited, this could lead to a fire or explosion. While only one gas leak incident has been reported and no injuries have occurred, the company is urging consumers to act swiftly.
