THE PRESSURE'S ON THIS PRESSURE WASHER

TTI Outdoor Power Equipment has issued a recall for two models of RYOBI electric pressure washers due to a serious safety hazard. The affected models—RY142300 and RY142711VNM—have been found to contain capacitors that may overheat and burst. This malfunction can cause internal components to be forcefully ejected, posing a significant risk of injury to users and bystanders.

The recall, announced on August 28, 2025, affects approximately 764,000 units sold in the United States and an additional 16,000 sold in Canada. These pressure washers were available at Home Depot and Direct Tools Factory Outlet stores nationwide, as well as online through homedepot.com and directtoolsoutlet.com, between July 2017 and June 2024. Retail prices ranged from roughly $300 to $400.

Consumers are urged to stop using the recalled pressure washers immediately. To determine whether their unit is affected, they should visit ryobitools.com/recall. If included in the recall, users will be eligible to receive a free repair kit, which includes a replacement capacitor along with shipping and installation instructions. Proof of purchase is not required.

TTI Outdoor Power Equipment has received 135 reports of overheating incidents, including 41 explosions. These have resulted in 32 injuries, ranging from fractures to impact wounds affecting the fingers, hands, face, and eyes.

The recalled units are green in color and feature a spray nozzle, a detergent tank with a blue cap, and built-in storage for accessories. The model and serial numbers are printed on a data plate located on the side of the motor housing. Specific serial number ranges for each model are listed on the recall website.
