STEP ONE CLIMB. STEP TWO REGRET.

A LADDER TO FAILURE?

In a development that’s sure to bring ladder lovers back down to earth—perhaps a bit too quickly—Werner has announced a recall of its 20-foot and 24-foot Multi-Max Pro Multi-Purpose Ladders. Turns out, these ambitious climbers have a bit of a commitment issue: their locking mechanisms may jam and fail to fully lock into place.

Translation? Your ladder might ghost you mid-climb.

Approximately 122,250 units are affected, which means a whole lot of folks may have unknowingly been playing vertical roulette. The ladders, sold in silver with a blue top and a blue label, were available at Home Depot stores and online between November 2021 and February 2024. If you’ve got one with model numbers ALMP-20IAA or ALMP-24IAA and a long black rope trailing behind like it’s trying to be mysterious, it’s time to part ways.

Werner has received 18 reports of falls, with 14 resulting in injuries ranging from bruises and lacerations to fractures and head injuries.

Consumers are urged to stop using the recalled ladders immediately. Werner is offering full refunds, no questions asked—well, maybe one or two questions, like “Did you survive?” To get your refund, register at wernerco.com/recalls and follow the disposal instructions. Once you’ve bid farewell to your rebellious ladder, Werner will send you a check to help you climb back up financially.

Remember: ladders are supposed to elevate you, not betray you mid-ascent. If your ladder’s been more “Oops, I did it again” than “Step by step,” it’s time to let it go. Because they were apparently designed to help you reach your breaking point.

CLIMB FAST. FALL FASTER.
