BUILT TO STACK … NOT SNACK
Tegu Holdings Inc., a toy manufacturer based in Naples, Florida, has issued a recall for its Magnetic Floating Stackers toys due to a serious safety hazard involving detachable magnets. The recall, announced on July 31, 2025, affects two specific models: STA-BGY-801T, known as the Rainbow version, and STA-BTP-806T, called the Big Top version.
These toys, which consist of a wooden base, six colorful stacking pieces, two posts, and two figures on top, are designed to connect using internal magnets. However, the magnets in these toys can loosen and detach, posing a significant ingestion risk to children. If swallowed, high-powered magnets can attract each other or other metal objects inside the digestive system. This can lead to severe medical complications such as intestinal perforations, twisting or blockage, blood poisoning, and even death.
The recall was issued because the toys violate the mandatory safety standard for toy magnets. Tegu has received 31 reports of magnets separating from the toy stackers, though no injuries have been reported to date.
Approximately 22,850 units were sold in the United States, with an additional 1,977 units distributed in Canada and about 190 in Mexico. These toys were available for purchase from August 2018 through April 2025 at toy, children’s, and specialty stores nationwide, as well as online through Tegu.com and Amazon.com. Each toy retailed for around forty dollars.
Consumers who own these toys are urged to immediately remove them from children’s access and contact Tegu for a free replacement. To initiate the replacement process, consumers should mark the base of the toy with the word “RECALLED,” along with their initials and the date. A photo of the marked toy should then be emailed to Tegu. The toy should be disposed of in a sealed garbage bag and not donated.
For assistance, consumers can reach Tegu toll-free at 877-834-8869 between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday. They can also email service@tegu.com or visit the company’s recall page at https://tegu.com/pages/recall.
