“HAPPY AS LARRY” to Screen at New Renaissance Film Festival London 2025
We’re proud to announce that the darkly comedic and emotionally resonant feature film Happy as Larry, written and directed by Hugo André, has been officially selected for the 2025 edition of the New Renaissance Film Festival (NRFF) in London, taking place September 25–28.
About the Film: HAPPY AS LARRY
Larry, a disillusioned novelist, travels to the remote Isle of Skye with a plan to end his life. But his solitude is interrupted by Dale, a relentlessly cheerful stranger who refuses to let Larry slip away unnoticed. What begins as an awkward encounter evolves into a profound and often hilarious exploration of mortality, friendship, and the strange ways people find meaning. With its dry wit and poetic visuals, Happy as Larry is a celebration of life’s unpredictability and the quiet power of human connection.
Quotes from the Creative Team:
Hugo André, Writer-Director: “Happy as Larry was born from a quiet place—one filled with doubt, isolation, and the strange ache of unmet expectations. But somewhere along the way, it became a story about resilience, about how even the most unexpected encounters can shift the course of a life.”
“I never set out to make a film that answered big questions. I wanted to ask them—gently, humorously, and with a touch of poetry. If audiences walk away feeling seen, or even slightly less alone, then I’ve done my job.”
Lucas A. Ferrara, Producer: “As both a producer and an attorney, I’m drawn to stories that challenge convention. Happy as Larry does that with wit, grit, and a kind of quiet grace that lingers long after the credits roll.”
“This film doesn’t shout—it listens. It invites you into a conversation about mortality, meaning, and the messy beauty of human connection. That’s what makes it special.”
