Leatherman Tool Group Inc., based in Portland, Oregon, has announced a voluntary recall of approximately 17,000 Charge Plus and Charge Plus TTi multi-tools due to a potential safety hazard. The recall, issued on July 31, 2025, affects select units sold nationwide and online between July 2024 and March 2025.
The issue stems from a design flaw in which the knife blade tip may not fully retract into the handle, leaving it exposed. This poses a risk of laceration to users. Although no injuries have been reported to date, Leatherman is urging consumers to stop using the affected tools immediately.
The recalled products include the Charge Plus multi-tools in both stainless steel and black finishes, typically sold with either a black MOLLE or black nylon sheath. The Charge Plus TTi variant, also part of the recall, was sold in stainless steel with a black nylon sheath. All recalled units bear the “Leatherman” name etched into the tool.
Consumers can visit Leatherman’s recall page at www.leatherman.com/pages/charge-recall to check if their multi-tool is included. No proof of purchase is required. If eligible, users will receive a prepaid shipping label to return the product for free repair.
For further assistance, Leatherman’s customer service can be reached toll-free at 800-847-8665 between 6 a.m. and 5 p.m. PT, Monday through Friday, or by email at charge@leatherman.com. Additional information is also available at www.leatherman.com by clicking on “Safety Recall” at the bottom of the homepage.
The recalled multi-tools were sold at REI, various hardware and cutlery stores, and through online retailers including Leatherman.com, Amazon.com, and REI.com, with retail prices ranging from $150 to $200. All affected products were manufactured in the United States.
Talk about a cutting-edge design ....
