GEORGIA GUY GETS 27 YEARS FOR GENETICS TESTING SCAM

SCAMMED MEDICARE OUT OF $463 MILLION

According to a press release issued by the United States Department of Justice, a Georgia man (44), who owned a Medicare enrolled lab, was sentenced on August 18, 2023, to 27 years in prison for submitting some $463 million in phony genetic and other lab-test invoicing.

The man conspired with others (like “patient brokers, telemedicine companies, and call centers”) to solicit patients and purportedly advised them that Medicare covered expensive cancer genetic tests. Doctors are also said to have issued “robo-signed prescriptions,” even than they weren’t treating the patients or determining whether the testing was even medically necessary.

In a written statement, Acting Assistant Attorney General Nicole M. Argentieri of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division, noted, “In one of the largest genetic testing fraud cases ever tried to verdict, today’s sentence makes clear that the Department will seek justice for those who put profits above patient care, including owners and executives …. The sentence also demonstrates the Criminal Division’s ongoing commitment to fighting telemedicine and genetic testing fraud that exploits patients and drains health care benefit programs.”

When that lab owner guy got arrested do you think he was wearing jeans?
