PISTACHIO PIE'S PUNINESS

We decided to end our meal at FELICE, an Italian restaurant located at 366 South Rosemary Avenue, in West Palm Beach (Florida), with just one dessert: their “Torta al Pistacchio – pistachio and ricotta mousse, pistachio crumble” ($15)
▫️
Of course, in their “purest” form, pistachios are a chock full of vitamins, including B1, B2, B3, B6, C and E, together with a bunch of minerals, like potassium calcium and phosphorous. High in vegetable fiber and protein, they contain carotenoids and polyphenols which are said to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and lower bad cholesterol.
▫️
The main producing countries of these seeds are the United States, Turkey, Iran, Syria and Grace, with the Chinese being the biggest consumers (80,000 tons per year), followed next by Americans (45,000 tons, annually).
▫️
While recipes vary, you’ll find a few different versions online that include ricotta, powdered sugar, whipped cream, pistachio cream, gelatin sheets and eggs.
▫️
With hints of sweet and nutty flavors, we enjoyed its silky, creamy decadence. But at $18 (approx.; post-tax/tip), we took issue with the miserly portioning. Given that it looked like we got a sliver — half the size of a slice you would typically get — significant points were deducted, causing this puny dessert to score a lowly C+.
▫️
Pshaw to perturbing pistachio pie pricing!
