TENNESEE CORRECTIONS OFFICERS GUILTY OF ABUSING INMATE

FACE UP TO 20 YEARS IN PRISON FOR UNLAWFUL FORCE AND COVER-UP OF ATTACK

Two tactical officers formerly associated with the Tennessee Department of Corrections Strike Force pleaded guilty for their respective roles in the assault of an inmate and their subsequent coverup of that attack while they were stationed at the Northwest Correctional Complex in Tiptonville, Tennessee.

JG (38), pleaded guilty to “using unlawful force on an inmate and to provide false information” on the incident report. While SH (33), a co-defendant, previously pleaded guilty to filing a false incident report.

In a written statement, Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division, noted that “These two defendants used their power as correctional officers to engage in criminal conduct that victimized a person in state custody …. The Civil Rights Division will continue to hold accountable correctional officers who assault inmates and then try to cover up their criminal conduct.”

With his sentencing scheduled for March 5, 2024, JG faces 48-months in prison. While SH is scheduled to be sentenced on January 19, 2024, and faces upon to 20 years.
