Since FELICE, an Italian restaurant located at 366 South Rosemary Avenue, in West Palm Beach (Florida), claims to offer “Tuscan-inspired cuisine,” we thought we’d try a couple of their pastas. First up, was the “Fusilli Al Ferretto E Burrata — Artisanal fusilli al ferretto pasta, San Marzano tomato sauce, local Floridian burrata cheese, sundried tomatoes, breadcrumbs [veg]” ($27 pre-tax/tip).
▫️
Celebrity chef Giada De Laurentiis describes this as a “super simple” dish to make. (She uses olive oil, minced garlic, cherry tomatoes, salt, black pepper, basil leaves, and fresh mozzarella.)
▫️
“Al ferretto” means that the pasta dough is wrapped around a thin metal rod, thus differentiating its shape from the usual fusilli “spiral.” And while we’re not the biggest fans of sundried tomatoes (because they often tend to be salty and tart), they’re reportedly full of Vitamins C, K, niacin, manganese, potassium and copper, and are also an excellent source of “lycopene” — a natural compound which is said to reduce the risk of certain health conditions like some cancers and macular degeneration.
▫️
Its health benefits aside, given the dish’s simplicity, it’s important that the ingredients “pop” — particularly given the $33 price point (approx.; post-tax/tip). The creamy burrata should absorb the tomato’s acidity and the basil’s sweetness, while the olive oil should add a mild “nutty, fruitiness” that should bring it all together. But we thought this dish lacked balance.
▫️
Since the sauce was watery, the pasta slightly overcooked, and the presentation a bit “messy,” this overpriced dish scored yet another “C.”
▫️
Of course, at $33, I thought it deserved the rod.
