CURSED CROSTINI FICHI E RICOTTA

FELICE, an Italian restaurant located at 366 South Rosemary Avenue, in West Palm Beach, is part of the NYC-based SA HOSPITALITY GROUP, which claims its establishments are “quintessentially Italian and thoroughly cosmopolitan.” The company’s goal is to “create unique spaces where social, aesthetic, and sensory experiences can come to life.”
▫️
According to its website, this Florida location offers “Tuscan-inspired cuisine,” featuring “Italian classics taking inspiration from the seaside, prepared with the highest quality ingredients.”
▫️
But we questioned the inspiration for the CROSTINI FICHI E RICOTTA, which the menu described as “toasted bread, fresh ricotta cheese, figs, toasted almonds, honey [veg]” ($18 pre-tax/tip).
▫️
Now this dish is neither complicated, nor expensive, to make, with the steps involving the toasting of bread, the smearing of some ricotta cheese, adding sliced figs and nuts, and then drizzling it all with honey. (Some recipes also call for a protein, like prosciutto or salami.)
▫️
For $22 (approx; post-tax/tip), we were hoping that the cheese would be velvety smooth, and that we’d get hit with a captivating array of textures and flavors. Instead, a guest aptly described this item as “lackluster.” Not only was it surprisingly drab, but we found it exceedingly pricy given what we got here. (“They asked quite a lot, for so little,” noted a friend.)
▫️
Because this offering was un-fig-givably fig-getable, it rated a “C.” (I was of the view the grade should have fig-ured much lower … and think this dish could use some major recon-fig-uring.)
