According to linguists, the Latin word “FORTEM” means “strength” or “courage.”
Hence the name of a new short film written, directed, and produced by Grace Reinhold-Gittins.
It’s an ambitious and courageous project in its own right -- in that it seeks to address the challenges which members of the transgender community face in today’s world.
Grace admires the “sheer bravery” it takes for these individuals “to be able to walk outside their front door and feel comfortable in their own skin.” And hopes that by “making this film and giving it as much exposure at as many film festivals as possible … that the message will challenge people’s perception of the LGBTQI+ community and … make the world a little more of an accepting place.”
Ironically, Grace has faced a few challenges of her own getting this ambitious project completed, including maxing out her personal credit cards. And, particularly now, with the hurdles COVID now presents creatives from around the globe, additional funds are needed to get this film the kind of recognition that it rightfully deserves.
