ROOFTOP @ EXCHANGE PLACE: THE EXCHANGE BURGER

When you have a beautiful summer day, why eat “in,” when you can eat “out?”
▫️
Hoping to catch some rays, and to enjoy some great views, we decided to trek on over to “The RoofTop at Exchange Place,” in Jersey City (New Jersey).
▫️
If you’re looking for some good eats, this place may not be for you. Of the dishes we ordered, this third and final one was only slightly less flawed, but still abysmal.

We went for the “The Exchange Burger” — described as a “Blend of Short Rib, Chuck & Brisket, Aged Cheddar, Applewood Smoked Bacon (withheld), Avocado, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, House Aioli, Over Easy Egg, Toasted Brioche Bun, Truffle Fries” — $17.

Right off the bat, we noted a problem with the accompanying greens, as much in the pile looked wilted. (This assortment looked and tasted like it had been sitting around a while.)

And even though the meat tasted fine, and had been cooked medium rare (as we requested), we didn’t like the rehardened, clumpy cheese, and that our patty was smothered in an “aioli” that tasted more like a heavy Russian dressing. (Less is more, as far as we’re concerned. Besides, rather than go crazy with the application of a condiment, customers should be allowed to exercise some choice, and we should be able to sauce some food items (like a burger), to taste.)

And, finally, while we had no objection to the taste of the truffle fries, that they arrived cold made them totally unacceptable

Ultimately, given all these failings, we had little choice but to score this loathsome dish an “F.”
