CLASSIC CAST IRON PANCAKE

If you’re looking for a simple (yet tasty) brunch item, that won’t break the bank, head on over to Coconut Grove (Miami) and try Ariete’s “Classic Cast Iron Pancake” — clarified butter, buttermilk pancake, maple ($5).

There’s nothing better than a delicious, comforting breakfast to start your day. And this relatively inexpensive, fluffy offering may fit the bill.

Yes, the plating suffered from some deficits (like some colorful fruit pieces would have made the dish more appealing and festive), and our preference would have been for the pancake to have been cooked to a golden brown color (and not come to the table overcooked or charred). And while we also could have done without the powdered sugar (given that its added sweetness wasn’t necessary), because this spongy, $5 treat was packed with flavor, it still scored a pretty respectable “B-“.

[While I was of the view that was an extremely generous grade, everyone was clearly having an enjoyable time. So, I’m going to let this one slide ....]

Offering “progressive American fare, and classic cocktails, in a modern farmhouse-style setting,” Ariete is certainly worth a visit if you’re in the area.

[But, do me a favor and return the pancake if yours comes out the same way this one did! 😉]
