SUPPORT TRAILBLAZERS?

Dear Lucas,

We know contested elections are crucial for democracy. You probably know this, too, and we want to give you the story of Faith Tyler, and how your support of our Trailblazers spurs debate about issues, engages the electorate, and gets more voters to the polls.

Trailblazers PAC proudly supported Faith in her 2017 run for Mayor of Groton last month. Though she did not win her race, Faith’s campaign had major successes.By throwing herself into a race, Faith encouraged her neighbors to participate, too. As a citizen, Faith gave the gift of herself to her community. Back in 2015, no one ran against the incumbent mayor in Groton. Out of over 2000 voters, only 64 people - just under 2% - showed up to the polls. This year, with Faith’s contested race, 385 Groton residents voted. Turnout in 2017 shot up to 15% - eight times more than two years ago. That’s a lot more people thinking about the issues in Groton.

It’s true we’re in a period of increased voter participation just now. So is the increased turnout in Groton simply part of the larger national engagement?

We think it goes way beyond that.

Take a look at Marathon, NY, a village similar in size to Groton, but with an uncontested mayoral race in 2017. This year, only 30 people voted in Marathon, 1.5% of the population.

Trailblazers PAC is proud to support candidates like Faith who run on a platform emphasizing honest government, and who build grassroots support inside their districts. It’s a win for their communities when more voters participate.
