In a minute, I am about to ask you to make a contribution to my re-election campaign. But first, I hope you’ll allow me the opportunity to explain not just why your donation matters so much, but what it represents.
By any objective measure, our city is a better and fairer place to live because of the work that we’ve done together.
We established free, universal pre-K for every 4-year-old in New York City, expanded paid sick leave, established the nation’s most ambitious municipal ID card program, dramatically reduced the use of stop-and-frisk, and launched the biggest affordable housing plan in the history of the city.
Jobs are up, crime and unemployment are at record lows, and we’re making it easier for people of all backgrounds to stay in New York City.
But, of course, when you take on powerful interests to accomplish some of these goals, they don’t often go down without a fight. We’ve already faced $13 million-plus in attack ads from the landlord lobby and hedge funds who want to take our city backward. And just after last election, Donald Trump gave the New York Republican Party a clear objective: to beat our campaign. But I genuinely believe they are no match for us when we stand together. So here’s where I have to ask:
When we file our campaign finance numbers in a few weeks, I want it to be clear that every single contribution we report is a public declaration of support for our accomplishments, and for the values we share.
I am proud of our success, and I hope you feel the same. But, as you know, there’s more to do. If we continue to stand together, there’s no telling what we’ll accomplish in the next four years.
In solidarity,
Bill de Blasio
Mayor, New York City
