HERE'S THE REAL STORY

Lucas -

Before I share some excellent news about our campaign, I want to take a moment to thank our city’s sanitation workers for their round-the-clock effort before, during, and after Winter Storm Stella. I also want to urge everyone to take care of yourselves and each other during the cleanup. Please check in on your friends and neighbors, especially if they are aging or have special needs. Thank you.

As you know from our recent emails, we just closed the books on another New York City Campaign Finance Board fundraising deadline. And we certainly raised a good amount of money over the last two months -- more than $850,000 after accounting for matching funds -- but that’s not the real story.

The real story is that we received more than 3,000 individual contributions during that time, the vast majority of them coming from people giving small amounts of money. In fact, 95 percent of our donations came from working people giving $175 or less. We received 2,278 donations of $27 or less!

In fact, we received more individual contributions of $175 or less this reporting period than every candidate who ran for mayor received combined during the same period in 2013.

What this report proves is that when you put working people first in your work and in your campaign, they will respond by stepping up and supporting those efforts.

We are running a campaign for working families, powered by working families. I am very proud of that fact. You should be too.

In solidarity,

Bill de Blasio
Mayor, New York City
