Dear Lucas

We never thought it would come to this, but you need to know that America’s wild horses are on the chopping block. Not just one herd, and not just in one particular area—thousands of them.

Federally protected for nearly 50 years, our beautiful wild herds may not be around to be appreciated by future generations if the new Administration has its way. Its proposed federal budget includes an outrageous plan to gut the Wild Horse and Burro Program.

The Department of the Interior wants thousands of horses off its hands by any means necessary—including by selling the horses for slaughter, which isn't currently legal.

This shameful proposal is a truly disgusting abandonment of the Interior Department's responsibility, both to horses and to those of us who value them. It can be fought and rejected in Congress, so don't delay: Let your representatives know that this isn't your vision for America.

Horses shouldn't pay with their lives for the greed and incompetence of the agency required by law to care for them. Thank you.
