Ivan S. Schneider, a prominent New York City personal injury attorney and a founder of Schneider, Kleinick, and Weitz, died on January 5, 2017. Schneider, Kleinick and Weitz was a preeminent personal injury law firm that specialized in representing catastrophically injured plaintiffs.
Mr. Schneider is credited with having obtained numerous multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements during his fifty-year career. He was regularly named as one of the top trial lawyers practicing in New York City.
In 1994, his firm merged with Damashek, Godosky, & Gentile to become Schneider, Kleinick, Weitz, Damashek and Shoot. The firm successfully represented New York State against the tobacco industry for health care costs associated with smoking.
Mr. Schneider grew up in Brooklyn and graduated from Brooklyn Law School in 1954. He credited his humble Brooklyn roots for his ability to relate to jurors and clients.
He is survived by his partner, Philippe Dehaene, and two children Cory and Kelly. Services will be held in Miami, Florida on Sunday, January 8, 2017. A memorial service is planned for New York City.
NYSTLA extends its deepest condolences.
