YOU MIGHT CALL IT A CASSEROLE

Lucas,

If you're not from Minnesota, you might call it a "casserole," but hotdish is a one-pan dish made of several ingredients, usually some potatoes or grain, vegetables, and a protein. (Cheese never hurts, either.)

Any number of combinations can make a delicious hotdish. I'm partial to Franni's hotdish myself. But you have to be careful; the wrong mix can go really, really badly.

Putting together a budget is a little like putting together a good hotdish. You need to find the right balance of ingredients. If Trump's budget were a hotdish, it would be a tripe, chocolate syrup, and cheese nightmare.

Trump's making deep, deep cuts to almost every department. He's slashing the EPA budget by 31 percent. He's eliminating funding for important initiatives that do things like help seniors pay their heating bills in the winter (LIHEAP). He's cutting funding for practically every climate change initiative we have, but actually increasing funding for programs that drill for oil and gas on public lands.

And families in Minnesota are the ones who will have to stomach the consequences.

Join me and stand against Trump's disastrous budget. Add your name.

Every year I hold a Hotdish-Off in the Capitol for the Minnesota congressional delegation. I do this every year to foster a sense of friendly competition with my Minnesota colleagues from both sides of the aisle.

In Minnesota, we believe in reaching out and working together. Putting together a budget isn't easy, and there has got to be some room for compromise along the way.

But Trump's budget isn't compromising. It takes a hatchet to important programs that millions of Americans rely on. I simply can't stand for that.

I hope you'll join me. Reject President Trump's budget.

Thanks.

Al
