WANNA HELP LOUISIANA?

Dear Colleagues:

The waters have receded. The army of TV cameras has thinned, no longer reminding us each evening of the thousands of Louisiana families with flooded homes—and no flood insurance and a host of legal challenges.

You can help.

The New York State Bar Association and The New York Bar Foundation continue to seek donations to help provide legal services for residents of flood-ravaged Louisiana.

To date, we have received over $3,000 in donations from attorneys throughout New York State. This is a good start, but we hope to be able to contribute at least $10,000 to our southern neighbors. We invite you to help by contributing to the Disaster Relief Fund.

The Louisiana State Bar Foundation, which is working on flood relief legal needs initiatives with local stakeholders, has extended its thanks for Association and Foundation’s joint efforts.

”We appreciate what you are doing for us. We met yesterday and made the initial distributions from our disaster relief fund. I know how much the recipients will appreciate it, as many were not in a flood zone and unfortunately had no flood insurance. Again, thank you so much for your efforts on our behalf,” Loretta Larson, executive director of the Louisiana State Bar Association wrote in an email.

Be assured that 100 percent of your donation to our Disaster Relief Fund will be earmarked for providing legal services to Louisiana flood victims.

Checks should be made payable to The New York Bar Foundation with the designation "Disaster Relief Fund" and mailed to The New York Bar Foundation, One Elk Street, Albany, NY 12207. Donations can also be made online at www.tnybf.org/donation.

Please send your contribution in before September 23 so that dissemination of the funds can begin soon.

Thank you for your help,
