STOP THE MONSANTO-BAYER MERGER

Lucas, agricultural seed and chemical giant Monsanto just agreed to a $66 billion merger with German pharmaceutical and farm-chemical maker Bayer. If the deal goes through, the newly merged company will be one of the largest agrochemical firms in the world and could put 90 percent of the world’s food supply in the hands of only four multinational corporations.

The results would be dire: Our food would be sprayed with more toxic pesticides and produced with more GMO seeds. Food choices for consumers would drastically decrease while the price of food worldwide could skyrocket.

Sign the petition from CREDO and Daily Kos: Block the Monsanto-Bayer merger.

There’s a simple way to stop this dangerous merger: The Department of Justice (DOJ) can enforce antitrust laws to block the merger and put a stop to the consolidation of agribusinesses.

While you might know Bayer from its popular aspirin brand and other drugstore staples, the company has a long history of peddling chemicals that are dangerous to humans and detrimental to the environment. Bayer is one of the world’s leading makers of bee-killing neonicotinoids pesticides. Its potential merger with Monsanto, which has a long history of inflicting damage to our food supply and environment, would make the company bigger and more powerful than it already is.

Regulators have an obligation to block this dangerous mega-merger to protect farmers, producers, consumers and the environment from complete corporate control of our food supply. We must demand the Justice Department block this merger now to protect consumers, not Monsanto and Bayer’s bottom lines.

Tell the Justice Department: Block the Monsanto-Bayer merger.

Thanks for all you do,
