Dear Alumni and Friends,
For the third year in a row, I am happy to share the news that New York Law School has jumped in the U.S. News & World Report (USNWR) rankings – up 16 spots to #111 for 2017. Of the 205 law schools in the nation, USNWR reviewed 196 of them: 149 schools were ranked in a First Tier and 47 were unranked in the Second Tier. The NYLS Part-Time Division remained on the list of top programs at #38. In addition, NYLS ranked #33 for diversity out of 194 law schools that were ranked.
NYLS also has been recognized in many other publications and I am so proud of what we have accomplished together. Here are some of the highlights:
- NYLS earned highest grades for Intellectual Property Law and Technology Law by the National Jurist’s preLaw Magazine (Winter 2016).
- NYLS was ranked #1 for Practical Training in New York State and #13 among law schools nationally by The National Jurist in 2015. NYLS received an “A rating” and top ranking for Law School Clinical and Experiential Learning in The National Jurist’s “Best Schools for Practical Training” March 2015 issue. Practical training continues to flourish at NYLS with the opening of The Joe Plumeri Center for Social Justice and Economic Opportunity in Fall 2015. The new Center was made possible by a $5 million gift from Joe and Susan Plumeri. It houses the Law School’s “law firm” and the more than 20 legal clinics under one roof with ground level access to clients.
- NYLS was ranked #36 nationally by The National Law Journal as the “Go-To National Law School” for its number of alumni promoted to law firm partnerships during 2015.
- NYLS’s Two-Year J.D. Honors Program was cited as one of the “10 Most Promising Innovations in Legal Education” by preLaw Magazine in 2015, which highlighted the program as an example of an innovation with the “greatest potential to change legal education for the good.”
- The work of the NYLS Office of Diversity and Inclusion was recognized by the National Jurist’s preLaw Magazine (Winter 2016).
- NYLS was ranked #16 by The Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education Magazine in its December 2015 ranking of "Top 25 Law Schools for Hispanics."
- The NYLS Black Law Students Association (BLSA) Chapter was selected as the Northeast Regional Chapter of the Year by the National BLSA organization.
- The NYLS LL.M. in Taxation was ranked #1 for the sixth consecutive year in the 2015 New York Law Journal Reader Rankings, and was ranked #2 in New York State, and #15 nationally among Taxation programs, by The National Jurist based on rankings made by those hiring corporate tax lawyers.
- NYLS was ranked #27 out of the top 350 law-related organizations for scholarly downloads and #38 out of 750 in the world in 2015 in the Social Science Research Network, a multi-disciplinary online repository of scholarly research and related materials.
- And, The National Jurist just announced its selection of Carlos Valenzuela, NYLS Class of 2016, and current Pro Bono Scholar, as one of the inaugural recipients of their Law Student of the Year award. You can read the article here. Congratulations Carlos!
