Lucas,
In the past, trade deals have caused the closure of steel mills, mines,
and factories. They’ve caused American jobs to go overseas -- to
places where the parent corporation can pay workers a lot less and provide
no benefits.
Why am I sending you this message today?
Because the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) was recently sent to Congress
for its consideration -- and this is our chance to make a difference.
The TPP does not include adequate protections for American workers, businesses,
or manufacturers. It doesn’t include sensible protections for fundamental
labor rights in partner countries. It doesn’t have a strong mechanism
for cracking down on countries like China that manipulate their currency.
And it gives big corporations an opening to circumvent U.S. law.
As long as this deal has so many problems, I will oppose the Trans-Pacific
Partnership.
I need you to let Congress know you’re with me. Will you add your
name to our digital effort to push back?
American (especially Minnesotan) businesses and workers can compete with
anyone in the world -- as long as they’re playing the same game,
with reasonably similar rules, on a mostly level playing field.
The TPP in its current form doesn’t level the playing field -- and
there may be a push to bring it up for a vote soon. This is our time to act.
Take two minutes right now and join me in telling Congress you oppose the TPP.
Thanks.
