A MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT ED GERSOWITZ

Good day, and welcome to the New York State Trial Lawyers Association. My name is Ed Gersowitz and I'm proud to say that I'm the 49th President of this organization.

I'd like to take this opportunity to welcome everyone aboard, and encourage everyone to become active as we go into this most important year. Some of the issues that I'd like to concentrate on during the year of my presidency include the establishment of the civil justice/social justice committee. What does this include? This really speaks to the rights of minority communities, the LGBT community for example, to ensure that the voice of the LGBT community in New York and everywhere is heard through the auspices of our great organization.

I'd also like to concentrate on legislative efforts in Albany to ensure that we are finally able to pass the Date of Discovery, a very important issue. As you may know, when a woman in particular is misdiagnosed via mammogram or some sort of lab study, or any person for that matter, it's often too late to bring a lawsuit because the statute of limitations is expired. This, incredibly, when the victim was not even told there was a problem. When they finally discover the medical mistake, it is often too late to pursue justice - justice for the victims and their families.

I'd like to encourage everyone to come aboard, to ensure that we put our best foot forward for the civil justice community, for the victims and all consumers in New York State. Please come along, contact me, let me know how you think you can be of assistance as we strive to ensure a better future for all New Yorkers. Thank you very much.
