What’s a Hackathon?

A Hackathon (also known as a hackfest or codefest) is an event in which computer programmers and others involved in software and hardware development collaborate intensively on software projects. The purpose of the Pipeline Technology Initiative is to expose youth to future career opportunities that are available in the fields of information technology and coding.

8:00 AM – Doors Open
9:00 – Official Kickoff! Project Proposals & Team Formation
10:00 – Icebreaker & Hackathon begins
11:00 – Beginners Workshop – Intro to coding
(This workshop is for those new to coding to learn about markup language and engage in CodeCombat gaming tutorials)
12:00 PM –Lunch
2:00 – Continue Working
3:00-3:30 – Snack break & sign up for those who want to show what they’ve built so far
5:00 – Continue Working
6:00-7:00 – Pizza dinner
6:30 – Judges Arrive
7:30 – Presentation Signup
8:00 – Presentations
9:00 – Awards
10:00 – Hackathon ends! Clean up, pack up, and remove all personal belongings.
