It’s embarrassing and inexcusable: The United States is the only industrialized country in the world that doesn’t offer some form of paid family leave for the birth of a child or an illness in the family.
What does that say about the state of our union? I’ll tell you: We’re keeping thousands of women and families from rising to their full potential, trapping them to America’s sticky floor.
President Obama rightly highlighted the need for federal paid family and medical leave in his State of the Union address last night; now, we need to demand Congress follow his lead and take meaningful action to pass the FAMILY Act, which will guarantee paid family and medical leave for American workers.
I need you with me on this: Click here to add your name and demand Congress pass the FAMILY Act for guaranteed paid family and medical leave.
Our laws have to reflect the changes in our workplace. Sure, in 1960 only 11% of families relied on mothers as the sole or primary breadwinner – but these days, that number is up to 40%.
That means paid family and medical leave isn’t a women’s issue – it takes a toll on the entire family, and our country’s economy, when we have to make choices between caring for our family members and earning a paycheck.
The FAMILY Act will modernize our workforce – and Congress needs to join President Obama in making it a priority. So I’m asking you: Will you join me in demanding Congress pass the FAMILY Act to guarantee paid family and medical leave?
Add your name to tell Congress: Pass the FAMILY Act to modernize our workforce!
Thanks for sticking with me on this issue.
