Lucas A. --
We’re less than a month away from the 9th Annual Brooklyn PTA 5K run/walk/scooter/bike/roller-blade/wagon pull. Join us Saturday, May 7 in Prospect Park for a spring day of students and parents running, and school communities coming together to support one another. You can learn more on my website, or register for the race directly here. Be sure to spread the word in your school and community about this important and fun spring event:
Brooklyn PTA 5K Fun Run/Walk
Race at 10 AM
Number Pickup begins at 8:45 AM
Bartel-Pritchard Square, Prospect Park
I’m again joining forces with Council Members Laurie Cumbo, Stephen Levin, and Carlos Menchaca; Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams and State Senator Jesse Hamilton to put on a great day of running in Prospect Park. All are terrific supporters of our local schools, and I thank them for their help in spreading the word and drawing additional funds for our PTAs.
It is the spirit of collaboration that makes the PTA 5K event stand-out. Schools from throughout Brooklyn (and a few from other boroughs) participate, and the list keeps growing. Last year we raised $20,000 for schools across Brooklyn. In the past couple years, we’ve also seen another level of partnership in which schools with well-honed PTA fund-raising operations have reached out to schools with greater need to work together to raise funds for where they are most needed. And I must give a special thanks to our sponsoring school, PS 107, for their deep involvement in making this event a success.
For those that are registered, we will send information soon about early bib pick-up and other logistics. If you aren’t planning to run but would like to support the event, please contact us for volunteer opportunities or to make a direct donation. Email PTArunfortheschools@gmail.com and Vicki Sell vsell@council.nyc.gov in my office for more information.
Together, we keep our schools strong. Thanks for being part of a Brooklyn-wide school community.
