I never thought I would get cancer.
I thought if I exercised, ate healthy, and took good care of myself, I
could avoid getting sick.
But two years ago I was diagnosed with stage four uterine cancer. By the time it was detected, it had spread throughout much of my body…
ravaging my bones, lungs, and other organs.
I was without health insurance. As a self-employed personal trainer and
a single mother, it wasn’t a luxury I could afford.
Before the Affordable Care Act, even if I were able to find an affordable
plan, I would have been denied coverage because of a pre-existing condition.
But now, thanks to the leadership of President Obama, I have great, affordable
coverage that saved my life.

Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, I received lifesaving treatment at
a top hospital in California.
Most people dread going to the hospital, but I always walk in with a smile
on my face.
I’m smiling because now I have time to spend with my daughter. Now
I have time to see her grow up. Now I don’t have to worry about
losing everything because of medical costs.
The Affordable Care Act is working every day. It is saving lives. It saved mine.
