Lucas,
Gun violence kills more than 30,000 people a year, and more than half of those killed are under the age of 30. It’s long past time we do something about it.
There’s a simple step we can take toward stemming our nation’s epidemic of gun violence: fixing background checks to prevent dangerous people from slipping through the cracks.
That’s why I’ve introduced a bill to close the gun show loophole that allows people who buy guns at shows to purchase a weapon without first going through a background check. That’s just wrong.
Ninety-one percent of Americans – including gun owners! – support expanding background checks. It’s a commonsense solution: Congress must stop sitting on its hands and start taking action to keep guns from dangerous people.
Background checks keep guns out of dangerous criminals’ hands. There’s just no good reason for the law to allow so many guns to be sold without this basic step.
We can’t keep ignoring the facts. We’ve tried doing nothing, and we’ve seen the results. Let’s stand together and demand that Congress take action to stop this epidemic.
Thanks for your support,
Carolyn
