Lucas,
A few days before Catherine Cortez Masto announced she'd be running
for the Senate seat I am vacating in 17 months, I told a radio station,
"If she runs, I'm going to help her… whoever runs against
Catherine will be a loser."
With Catherine's campaign well underway, I'm keeping that pledge.
It took a lot of time, thought, and discussion with my family before I
decided to retire from the Senate at the end of my term. But one thing
that helped make a difficult decision easier was knowing that Catherine
was on the bench and available to run if I stepped down.
Add your name to join me and EMILY's List in supporting Catherine and
standing up to Republicans who are eager to flip my Senate seat.
Catherine is a tough fighter who believes in using her power to help those
in need. As Nevada attorney general, she worked hard with law enforcement,
treatment providers, and community advocates to crack down on meth manufacturers.
She created a senior protection unit to make sure no one gets away with
abusing or exploiting the elderly. She fought to strengthen laws to prevent
sex trafficking and violence against women.
There are few people in Nevada — and in this country — who
have a better resume to run for the Senate.
There's also a problem in the Senate that Catherine is the key to
solving: There's never been a Latina senator. We need a voice and
perspective like Catherine's if we're going to pass legislation
that truly benefits American women and families.
I'm under no illusions that this is going to be an easy race. Republicans
currently control every statewide seat except for mine, and they want
it badly. The National Republican Senatorial Committee is already attacking
Catherine and my support of her.
I said I would help Catherine, and I'm doing just that. Join me and
EMILY's List to help her become the next senator from Nevada:

Thank you for all that you do,
