Dear Lucas,
Speaker Boehner's resignation on Friday means that we're about
to enter a new world of political instability in Washington. With the
possibility of a government shutdown as Republicans attempt to defund
Planned Parenthood in the near future, that's a scary prospect. However,
it also presents opportunities for leaders like Hakeem Jeffries.
Support his work for progress.
Hakeem Jeffries is reaching across traditional partisan barriers to address
the important issues our country is facing. He's found Republican
allies who are willing to confront the problem of mass incarceration as
the founding members of the Criminal Justice and Public Safety Caucus.
Hakeem is the leader on the fight to ban police chokeholds and reform
policing practices. He’s also working with a bipartisan group of
Members of Congress to reform our outdated patent laws which will boost
innovation and create good jobs.
With the Congressional leadership in flux, Hakeem will have an opportunity
that few other members do to push an agenda that can pick up broad support.
That's a big opportunity to actually achieve results for Americans.
But he needs your support so that he can focus on passing legislation
in Congress.
Lucas, will you contribute $5, $25, or $50 today so that Hakeem can devote
his full attention to making progress?
There's a fundraising deadline on Wednesday and we need to put in
a strong showing so that he can continue working for us in Congress. As
a congressman, Hakeem has to win re-election every two years. Your contribution
will strengthen him so that Hakeem is able to take a leading role during
this turbulent time in Congress. But he’ll only be able to do that
with your support.
Make a contribution before Wednesday's deadline > >
Thank you,
Cathy Toren
