Margaret Newman
Executive Director
The Municipal Art Society of New York
Ms. Newman will discuss the Municipal Art Society’s proposals relating
to urban planning, design and historic preservation on Manhattan’s
West Side.
Margaret Newman, FAIA, joined the Municipal Art Society as the Executive
Director in 2014. Prior to joining MAS, Ms. Newman served as Chief of
Staff at the NYC Department of Transportation to Commissioner Janette
Sadik-Khan. Prior to her work for the City of NY, Ms. Newman practiced
architecture in New York City for over 15 years as a partner in Marren
and Newman Architects, a multidisciplinary architecture and design firm
located in New York City. A Fellow of the American Institute of Architects,
she received a B.A. in Visual Arts from Bennington College and a Masters
of Architecture from Princeton University.
Since 1893, The Municipal Art Society of New York has been dedicated to
safeguarding the City’s past while advancing the best ideas for
tomorrow. Leveraging its network of urban planners, architects, elected
officials, activists, and developers, it has helped shape the future of
New York for over 120 years.
