Dear Lucas,
As you may already know, I am exploring a run for Congress in the 13th
Congressional District to succeed my close friend and partner in public
service, U.S. Representative Charles Rangel.
From Harlem to Washington Heights, from El Barrio to the Bronx, the enthusiasm
has so far been overwhelmingly positive. And while I know that the shoes
left to fill by our beloved congressman will be huge, I also know that
our neighborhoods demand a leader who will continue to fight for the issues
that I have championed throughout my more than twenty years of public service.
Whether it's building more affordable housing, bringing better economic
and educational opportunities to low- and middle-income families, or finally
pushing through meaningful immigration reform, these are just some of
the reasons why I am giving strong consideration to running to represent
the district I call 'home' in Washington, D.C.
