Dear Lucas,
On Mother’s Day, we honor the incredible women in our life – the extraordinary mothers, grandmothers, daughters and sisters – who make our families, our communities and our nation stronger.
I think about my own mother. One of only three women in her law school class, my mom took her criminal law final two days after giving birth to my brother, and her New York Bar character exam three days before giving birth to me. She refused to be sidelined, and she inspires me to make sure women across our country know they can claim their place in public life.
I think about my grandmother, Polly Noonan – my greatest political hero. As a young girl, I hung onto her every word – not always understanding the issues she spoke about, but always understanding her passion.
And today, I’m so happy to be spending time with my boys, who motivate me, each and every day, to be a better mom and a better advocate for all our families.
I hope you are all able to spend some time with family and friends today, and I wish you a very happy Mother’s Day.
